RAF Burtonwood Heritage Centre Educational Experience Day

This experience day allows your Group not only to discover all that the RAF Burtonwood Heritage Centre has to offer but also allows the children to discover what it would have been like to live in wartime Britain through co-ordinated presentations. Your Group would be met by our Heritage Centre Curator and initially given a talk about RAF Burtonwood and why it was so important. The Groups will then be split into four smaller groups and undertake the following presentations/activities :-

Life on the Home Front

Evacuees and Rationing

The effect of the war on Warrington and its people

The Berlin Airlift

At lunch time the children will be served with a wartime meal.  You can choose from one of the following options :-

The Homefront –  A wartime spam fritter, mashed potato and carrots with bread and butter would be served with tinned fruit salad and Carnation milk. Washed down with a cup of tea or a soft drink.

The GI Jo Meal – A GI Joe Hotdog, French fries and a soft drink

After lunch it’s time to explore the Heritage Centre where our co-ordinators will be on hand to help bring the exhibits to life, children can try the GI Gully trail.

Minimum Group 15 people – maximum 35 people

Price per child £13.50 which includes lunch.

Come along and enjoy a presentation about RAF Burtonwood and discover why it was so important.

Explore the Heritage Centre exhibits and discovery the history of RAF Burtonwood.

As part of your visit you will be served with a themed meal, you can choose from either :-

RAF Burtonwood Discovery visit

Come along and enjoy a presentation about RAF Burtonwood and discover why it was so important.

Explore the Heritage Centre exhibits and discovery the history of RAF Burtonwood.

Duration 1 ½ to 2 hours

Maximum 30 children

£50.00 for up to 20 children additional people are charged at £2.50 per child.  Accompanying adults free entry.

Visit the RAF Burtonwood Heritage Centre as part of your visit to Gulliver’s World

The RAF Burtonwood Heritage Centre is situated at Gulliver’s World, itself situated on part of the RAF Burtonwood Airbase. As part of your visit to Gulliver’s a visit to the Heritage Centre is included in your entrance fee to the park.

Children can spend time exploring the Centre and undertake GI Gully’s Trail

No minimum or maximum numbers, please just let us know before your visit so that we can ensure we have the space for you.

Visits for Adult’s Groups

An Afternoon of Burtonwood Memories

Arrive at the Gulliver’s Hotel, where Afternoon Tea will be served in the lounge.

Afternoon tea includes – A selection of assorted sandwiches, Selection of wartime cakes, Scones with jam and cream served Selection of teas or coffee

“What was Burtonwood’s role and why was it so important” – enjoy the history as told by the curator of the heritage centre while enjoying your tea.  With a question and answer session at the end.

Then wander through the many exhibits of the Burtonwood Heritage Centre and visit the DC4 with our team on hand to answer any questions.

An Evening of Memories

Arrive at the Gulliver’s Hotel and enjoy a glass of wine or pint of beer with wartime nibbles.

Wander through the many exhibits of the Burtonwood Heritage Centre and visit the DC4 with our team on hand to answer any questions.

 Evening Talks & Lectures

Want to learn more about the history of  RAF Burtonwood and the surrounding Warrington area.  Why not come along to one of our lectures by a range of eminent authorities on all things Burtonwood.

Talks and lectures will be held in the Gulliver’s Hotel conference facilities with the ability to visit the heritage centre by appointment before.

Cost £5.00 per person

Tours

Come and experience the Heritage Centre in more depth.  Consisting of a 13 min video and a brief guided Heritage Centre Tour explaining the background to both the Heritage Centre and RAF Burtonwood.

Duration :-  30 mins

Tour cost: Entry to the Heritage Centre and this tour is free, however we do suggest a donation £2.50 per person.

Tour times vary from day to day, but are normally from 11am, available to Gulliver’s World Customer only and from 2:30pm for visitors to the Heritage Centre.

Heritage Centre and Cockpit tour

This tour explains in more depth the reason for the Heritage Centre and RAF Burtonwood’s role from 1939 to 1993. It includes entry into the Nissen Hut Billet, Wedding Chapel and a chance to access the DC-4 cockpit with video presentation of the aircrafts role in the Berlin Airlift.

Duration :- 1 ½ hrs.

Tour cost : £30.00 per group of up to 8 people.

RAF Burtonwood Heritage Tour

This is a guided illustrated tour of the Warrington area which is now occupying the footprint of the former RAF Burtonwood.  It includes a 25 min video presentation in DC4 and an opportunity to explore the Heritage Centre on your return from the tour. Tea and Biscuits will be served prior to you heading on your tour.  This tour can be tailored to suit individual group requirements with regard to content.

Duration :- 2 hour

Tour Cost: £150.00 per group of 6 people, if you would like an afternoon tea upon your return please add £8.95 per person.

The Ultimate Burtonwood Tour

Starting with tea, coffee and biscuits while watching a 25 min video in the DC4 followed by brief talk and question and answer session.

You will then depart on a guided illustrated tour taking in the locations of RAF Burtonwood, RAF Padgate, HMS Gosling(Croft), ROF Risley, HMS Blackcap (Stretton) and a brief drive through Warrington Town Centre with a description of the former pub’s etc. This section could be customised to suit the Groups requirements.

We would then return to the Heritage Centre for look round and opportunity to buy some souvenirs before returning to the Hotel for Afternoon tea.

Duration :- 4 hours

Tour cost: £250.00 per group of 4 people.
